The Punjab Scheduled Castes panel has appealed to the state government to waive loans taken by people from the State Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation, in case he or she has passed away.
The chairman of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission, Rajesh Bagha, said it has been decided in a meeting of the panel that the remaining loan amount should not be recovered from the families of those borrowers who have died.
"Till May 31 this year, there were 491 such borrowers and Rs 3.92 crore was due on them. But the families of these borrowers are unable to repay this amount owing to their poor financial conditions," he said.
The panel has appealed to the state government to formulate a comprehensive policy in order to ensure waiving of loans in case the borrower has died.
