Cliff Curtis has been signed as the male lead in 'The Walking Dead' spin-off series.

The 46-year-old New Zealand-born Curtis has previously appeared in 'Missing', 'Trauma' and 'Body of Lies', reported Deadline.

AMC won't confirm the exact details of the character Curtis will play, but based on descriptions already released it is thought he will play Sean Cabrera, a divorced teacher said to be "a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life" and father to Sean, his "whip-smart and rebellious teenage son".

The series, which is still yet to be named, will be set in the universe of 'The Walking Dead' and look at the zombie outbreak elsewhere.

Producers are still trying to find an actress for the lead female role Nancy Tompkins - she is described as "a thirty-something single mum to two kids; Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there's an edge to her".

The series had already cast 'Harry Potter' actor Frank Dillane as a young man with a drug addiction.
