Six children, aged below ten years, were playing in the vacant plot owned by one Vijender when the incident took place.

The children were trapped under the debris. Rescue workers rushed them to hospital where five of them were declared brought dead.

The children used to live with their parents at houses surrounding the plot. Two houses were also damaged when the wall collapsed.

A case under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 288 (negligent conduct) of IPC has been registered against owner Vijender and contractor Bhanwar Singh.

B M Mishra, Deputy Commissioner, said they received information about the incident around 10 AM.

"We will conduct an enquiry. There seems to be negligence and violation. We have taken cognisance. It's an unsafe structure. The repetitive nature of such incidents needs to be looked into," he said.
