Wanderlust elderly couple drives to Kashmir from Kanyakumari

Bitten by the travel bug, an elderly couple drove from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and then came back, covering 17,300 km in 100 days.

G Shanmugham (60), a tennis player and resident here, and his wife Mallika (55) left for Kanyakumari on February 20 and commenced their journey to Kashmir from there on February 22.

They covered 17,300 kms by car in 100 days and reached the starting point at Kanyakumari and from there returned here today.

The elderly couple was welcomed by their friends at Porter Town Hall.

They told reporters that they drove from 6 am till six pm and both took turns in driving. They did not visit Arunachal Pradesh as the "situation was not good".
 

"Earlier in 2011, we had covered 11,000 km by visiting many places in 47 days," they said.
