Punjab Governor and UT Administrator V P Singh Badnore today reiterated his resolve to make Chandigarh a crime-free city.
Badnore said all possible steps, including using latest techniques and technology, devising special operation plans and effective execution of strategies, would be taken to make Chandigarh a safe and "crime-free city".
He was presiding over a high-level meeting to review all aspects of crime, including the recent incidents of thefts, murders and snatchings in Chandigarh.
Addressing the officers of Chandigarh administration and senior police officials, Badnore said effective interstate coordination was necessary to control crime in Chandigarh, an official release said giving details.
The officers have also been directed to ensure crime- mapping for effective control.
He stressed on keeping a constant vigil to avoid any untoward incident which would disturb the law and order situation in the city.
He also directed the police officers to take all possible steps to streamline traffic within the city, especially during the peak hours using all options, including one-way traffic.
He also asked the officers to ensure the filling up of all vacancies in the police department so that staff crunch does not hamper its functioning.
Taking cognisance of the rising cyber crimes in Chandigarh, Badnore asked the officers concerned to upgrade the cyber crime cell.
The cell should be fully geared up and equipped with the latest gadgets to check crime instantaneously, he said.
"There is a need for adopting innovative and latest software technologies to improve our systems by equipping the staff managing the cell with professional skills," he added.
Taking stock of the installation of CCTV cameras on every traffic signal point, Badnore said that an uninterrupted surveillance of 24 hours was required.
He directed the officers to ensure that each and every CCTV camera installed was in working order.
