Theatre actor Sanjay Gurbaxani, who portrayed the character of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Shoojit Sircar's thriller 'Madras Cafe', said he would like to play the role on celluloid again.

Gurbaxani, who did small-budget Hindi films in the past, said his resemblance to the former Prime Minister fetched him this role in the political espionage thriller film.

"The casting director of 'Madras Cafe' chose me for the role because of my resemblance to Rajiv Gandhi. I got to understand him very well while portraying his character in the movie. If a movie is being made on his life, I would want myself to play out his character again," he told PTI.

Gurbaxani said Gandhi played a pivotal role in the development of technology and computerisation in the country.

The actor said though his portrayal of Rajiv Gandhi gave him recognition but he does not want to confine himself in that image only.

"When I think as an actor, I desire to act in different kinds of role. This the reason why I deliberately play such characters in 'Crime Patrol' and 'Savdhaan India' that won't confine me to any particular role," he said.

Gurbaxani, whose first movie was 'Jo Hum Chahein' in 2011, featured in several prominent Hindi movies including 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', 'Ek Tha Tiger', 'Heroin' and 'Anybody Can Dance'.
