Two wanted criminals from Jammu and Kashmir were arrested from Deganga area of North 24 Parganas district, police said today.

Raghuveer Singh and Raj Kumar were in an MUV with a number plate of J&K, which was spotted at Kaliani Bill locality by the patrolling police yesterday, police said.

The two youths told the police they were going to a relative's place at Hasnabad in the district but there were inconsistencies in their statements, police said, adding they were taken to Deganga police station.

Contacted by the local police, Jammu and Kashmir police said the two were wanted in eight to ten cases of murder, theft, kidnapping and extortion pending in several police stations of the northern state.

They shot at and injured a man in Jammu and stole his MUV in which they were found in Deganga, the police said.

However, it is true that Raghuveer has relatives in Hasnabad, which is close to Bangladesh border, the police said.
