A 29-year-old man, alleged member of a gang and wanted for his alleged involvement in various cases lodged against him has been arrested, police said today.

The accused, identified as Naveen Gupta, was a member of Ravi Gangwal gang and also declared as a proclaimed offender in four cases lodged against him, they said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said Gupta was arrested on June 5 on the basis of a tip-off that he would come to Chattarpur area here to attend a function.

He said Gupta was associated with Gangwal gang, which is involved in heinous crimes such as grabbing of properties, committing extortion, running drugs and betting rackets and water supply by tankers in areas of South Delhi, including Madangir, Khanpur and Sangam Vihar.

The police said that Gupta is a graduate from Delhi University and he had initially started working as a property dealer.

It is said that in 2005, Gupta had a quarrel over his shop with some local boys after which he was arrested in the case lodged at Malviya Nagar police station.

"Since then he entered into the world of crime. As a mark of his friendship with Ravi Gangwal, he had a tattoo on his right hand 'NAVEEN RAVI'," police said.
