Wanted man from UP held

A man from Uttar Pradesh, wanted in over 20 cases of murder, robbery and dacoity and carrying a reward of Rs 50,000, has been arrested after a brief encounter with Delhi Police.

According to police today, Shadab Qureshi was apprehended from Ashok Vihar area of the city on Wednesday and one .32 bore sophisticated pistol with four live cartridges and a Skoda car was recovered from him.

"Qureshi, who hails from Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head and was wanted in over 20 criminal cases including those of robbery, murder, and dacoity," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
 

Following a tip off, a trap was laid near Major Dhyan Chand Sports Complex in Ashok Vihar on Wednesday. Qureshi, who came in a Skoda car, got down at a distance and started walking towards I-block bus stand, said Yadav.

When a police team asked him to surrender, instead of surrendering, he whipped out his pistol and fired. Police also fired two rounds in defense and overpowered Qureshi, said Police.
