Warder dismissed for smuggling banned items inside Tihar jail

A warder of the high-security Tihar prison complex has been dismissed after being caught allegedly smuggling drugs and other banned items inside the jail.

A top official of Tihar prison said the warder, Virender Kumar, was caught by Tamil Nadu Special Police force personnel near jail number 4 on April 11. Drugs and other items were allegedly recovered from him.

"Virender who had recently joined as a warder four months back has been dismissed after report of an enquiry," the official said.

The accused warder was caught during frisking by jail staff. A case was registered and he was arrested.
 

"Drugs, bidi, cigarettes and other such substances were recovered from the accused by the jail staff," said the official.

The accused warder was handed over to police and he was arrested but later got bail from the concerned court, said the official.
