The director of a warehousing firm here was arrested for allegedly duping several people to the tune of Rs 4.50 crore, Thane police said Friday.

Thane police spokesperson Sukhada Narkar said that Sudarshan Yellaya Patipaka was on the run since July 2017 after cases of cheating and criminal breach of trust were registered against him in Narpoli police station in the district's Bhiwandi township.

At the time, five persons had filed cases in Narpoli police station accusing him of cheating them of Rs 4.50 crore, the official said.

"He first sold godowns to some persons and then took the premises on rent from them. In some cases, he failed to pay the rent and in other cases, he did not hand over the godowns to the buyers even after taking money," a police official said.

He is presently in the custody of Thane police's Economic Offences Wing and further probe was underway, the official added.
