A local court issued a non- bailable warrant against senior BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya for failing to appear in a case filed against him for allegedly making certain comments on Hindu gods and goddesses.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Kirti Kunal yesterday issued the NBW against Maurya in a case filed against him for allegedly making the remarks during a convention in Lucknow on September 21, last year, the prosecution said.

After a local counsel Anil Tewari had lodged the case, the ACJM had issued a NBW last year on December 18 following Murya's failure to appear before the court.

Later, however, Maurya filed a revision petition against it in the district court which was set aside by ADJ Ajay Kumar Dixit on November 9, 2015. The ADJ had also asked Maurya to appear in the magistrate's court on December 1 but the BSP leader failed to do.

The court, while issuing the NBW, has fixed January 16, 2016 as the next date of hearing.
