A local court here has issued a bailable warrant against self-proclaimed godman Nirmal Baba for alleged fraud and cheating.

The complainant Harish Veer Singh, had approached the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Meerut last year alleging that after extracting money from him, Baba had advised him to eat 'kheer' (curd) as a remedy for diabetes, following which his health deteriorated.

The victim, who is a professor at Janta Vedic college in Baghpat has alleged that he had approached police against Baba but his complaint wasn't registered, after which he had approached the court.

The court had summoned the Baba on October 31 last year, but he didn't appear before the court and forwarded a request for an exemption from appearing before the court.

The court rejected his petition yesterday and issued a bailable warrant against him and summoned him for hearing on January 6 next year.
