Jonita Gandhi's latest "The Breakup Song" from "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" gives a happy, new twist to heartbreak and the singer says while recording the number she was asked to just have fun with the lyrics.
The peppy dance song, which is picturised on Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor, has been composed by Pritam and also sung by Arijit Singh.
"I was very excited about it. It is a unique concept as we rarely have a happy song about break ups. Amitabh Bhattacharya has done such a good job with the lyrics. The lyrics were quite self-explanatory, so I was not given much brief. But I was only told to have fun with it," Jonita told PTI.

"Ae Dil Hai Mushkil", directed by Karan Johar, has hit theatres today. The film also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan.
Jonita, who has collaborated with Pritam earlier on "Dishoom", says she had recorded "The Breakup Song" a long while back but only came to know about its inclusion in "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" during her third recording session.
"I had recorded the song a long time ago and then I forgot about it. I think the third time I hit the recording studio, I got to know that it would be picturised on Anushka and she will be dancing in a disco on it."
Jonita's big breakthrough came when she worked with the iconic musician AR Rahman on two singles. Soon after her Bollywood career took off when she recorded the title song of "Chennai Express".
Since then she has lent her voice to songs like "Sau Tarah Ke" from "Dishoom", the title track of "Pink" and now "The Breakup Song".
Talking about her multiple collaborations with Rahman, Jonita says, "I love working with him. Last year we did a whole tour where I was the lead singer and so I learnt a lot. It is always great to work with him. He knows my work, he tries to get the best of me and pushes my boundaries."
The singer, who resides in Canada and is also popular on Youtube for her covers and singles, says she is happy with the momentum of her career.
"I am always working on collaborations for my Youtube channel, covers, singles and also live shows. I like to keep myself busy besides doing Bollywood projects.
