A plea alleging reckless dumping of municipal solid waste in Ghaziabad's Vaishali area has prompted the National Green Tribunal to direct the UP government to inspect the area and submit a detailed report on it. A bench headed by Justice Jawad Rahim issued notices to the UP pollution control board (UPPCB) and the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam and sought their replies within one week. "We direct respondent Nos 1 (UPPCB) and 2 (Nagar Nigam) to conduct an inspection of the area in question," the bench said. A report should be submitted before the tribunal within a week from now, it said.

"Objections to interim relief shall also be filed within that period," the bench said. The tribunal was hearing a plea filed by Kaushambi resident Mansi Chahal alleging open dumping of waste near the Income Tax Office in Vaishali by the authorities in Ghaziabad. The petition claimed the road was full of municipal solid waste and garbage which resulted in air and water pollution. "The dumping of huge garbage, solid waste, polythene, plastic products is causing a huge threat to the environment as well as to the people residing nearby," the plea said. It alleged that the auto-tippers of the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam were dumping the municipal solid waste on the main road.
