: Water from Aliyar Dam was released today for irrigation and drinking purposes to the areas in Pollachi Taluk of the district.
As per orders of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Municipal Administration minister S P Velumani and Deputy Speaker in the Assembly, Pollachi V Jayaraman released water, after performing pooja at the dam, an official release said here.
This would benefit about 6,400 acres in the taluk and also meet drinking water needs of the people in Pollachi municipal limits, it said.
A total of 150 cubic ft of water would be released daily, till October 15, the release said.
