Water-logging wreaks havoc in Guwahati, 8 killed, 1 missing

Eight people were killed due to electrocution and landslides triggered by incessant rains here as National Disaster Response Force was called in to rescue marooned people in the city, whose most parts are inundated.

One person who was washed away in the Bharalu river, was missing, police sources said.

Four persons died of electrocution and four others in landslides in different parts of the capital city which turned into a sea as there was no outlet for the waters into the adjacent rivers Brahmaputra and Bharalu, the sources said.

A government employee, Dinesh Das, was electrocuted last night in the water logged MLA Hostel in the Capital Complex in Dispur area, they said.
 

A second person, Prafulla Das, Deputy Director of Arunachal Pradesh Cultural Affairs department was electrocuted when he attempted to switch off the inverter at his residence in water-logged Nabin Nagar area today.

Another person, Suren Bharali was also electrocuted in the Down Town Hospital area on G S Road and the fourth in the Last Gate area.

Torrential rains since last night resulted in neck-deep water in worst-hit Anil Nagar, Tarun Nagar, Dispur, Rajgarh, Zoo Road, G S Road, GNB Road and Bhagagarh.

In a landslide in the hilly Bhangagarh area, three members of a family, including two women were killed and another injured when the boundary wall of a house above theirs collapsed on their tin-roofed hut.
