Water samples from 38 locations in the National Capital Region (NCR) have exhibited values of parameters beyond permissible limits, Lok Sabha was informed today.

In her reply, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati said that the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) has carried out water quality analysis in the NCR to assess the level of pollution.

To address the problem of pollution in river Yamuna, the minister said, the Centre has been supplementing the efforts of the state governments in various pollution abatement works by providing financial assistance to Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana under Yamuna Action Plan since 1993 in a phased manner.

"The government is placing a special emphasis on addressing in pollution in river Yamuna by launching targeted initiatives in Delhi, Mathura, Vrindavan and Agra," she said.

Apart from 'Namami Gange' programme and ongoing assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), assistance will also be availed from other agencies like the World Bank, she added.
