Rajkot district authorities have decided to prohibit new construction in Jetpur town of the district, to save the water for drinking.
Cities such as Porbandar and Surendranagar have adequate stocks of water, but due to inadequate distribution network, taps run only on alternate days.
Reservoirs in Jamnagar, Junagadh, Amreli and Rajkot have already gone dry.
Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has deployed its engineers to find out sealed borewells in Lalpari and Randerda on city's outskirts.
RMC needs 300 lakh gallons of water daily and it is now depending on the borewells. Aji is the only reservoir with water stock of 20 days.

"We are working on reviving borewells in Lalpari and Randerda," city commissioner Ajay Bhadu said.
Rajkot is getting drinking water every two days now; private suppliers are charging Rs 100 to 125 for 600 litres.
In Junagadh city, local BJP MLA Mahendra Mashru sat on fast, seeking water supply in six wards.
"Six months back Mayor and Commissioner promised to put portable water tanks in the area and regularly fill them through tankers. Today, during the general body meeting, Mayor refused to even discuss this issue," the MLA said.
Twenty-one BJP councillors are participating in the fast. However, Mayor and Commissioner later promised to act within five days.
Junagadh city is getting water every second day and that too for 25-30 minutes, locals said.
