West Bengal Assembly today passed the West Bengal Allied Medical and Para-Medical Council Bill, which will enable bringing in disciplines of paramedics and allied medical services under a regulated council.

"The aim of this bill is to bring various branches of allied medical and paramedics under a council. It will help regulate and keep an eye on them," Minister of State for Health Chandrima Bhattacharya told reporters.

Bhattacharya said the bill aims at registering allied medical and paramedical professionals and recognition of institutions imparting training to such professionals in the state.

"It has been a long standing demand of allied medical and paramedical professionals to constitute a council for registration and regulation of conduct of such professionals," she added.
