With the State Election Commission praying before the court that the panchayat election date notified by the West Bengal government be rejected, WBPCC president Pradip Bhattacharjee today attributed the impasse to the state government.

"The state government is responsible for this. If the elections are delayed then the full responsibility lies with the state government, " Bhattacharjee told reporters here after the SEC moved a prayer in the Calcutta High Court.

Criticising Trinamool Congress General Secretary Mukul Roy who had threatened to take the bodies of TMC workers to the SEC office if they died of summer heat, Bhattacharjee said, "We also take bodies of our workers to the doorsteps of Trinamool leaders. They should not try to browbeat us."

Congress leader and lawyer Arunabha Ghosh said that the stalemate proved that 'power without education is dangerous'.

"The election is getting delayed only because of them. The stalemate that Trinamool has created proves the saying that power without education is dangerous. They don't understand the basis of our democracy, " Ghosh told PTI.

The state government which has locked horns with the SEC has announced that the elections will be held in two phases under the supervision of the police.

The SEC has proposed that the polls be held in three phases with deployment of central forces.
