WB govt mulls starting Kolkata-Bangladesh cruise

The West Bengal government is contemplating to start cruise services between the metropolis and Bangladesh, Transport Minister Madan Mitra said today.

"It would be good if we can do it. People in Bangladesh are excited to come to Kolkata..So we want to do it," he told reporters here but did not divulge any more details.

Meanwhile, WB Surface Transport Corporation signed an MoU with private company Heritage River Cruises today.

The company's MV Bengal Ganga would take tourists on a cruise up the Ganga river from Kolkata to Patna via Farakka, Mitra said, adding, this would be extended to Varanasi soon.
 

"We will also organise cultural programmes onboard especially during Durga Puja," he said.

With a capacity to accommodate around 56 people, the vessel has 28 rooms with modern facilities.
