WB govt proposes to set up Howrah-Yokohama partnership

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said her government has proposed to set up a city-to-city partnership between Howrah in West Bengal and Yokohama in Japan.

"We have proposed to set up a city-to-city partnership of Howrah in West Bengal with Yokohama in Japan", Banerjee said in a Facebook post.

"This bilateral co-operation will lead to social, economic and cultural exchanges between the two satellite cities with long history," she said.

Stating that Howrah would change to a new city altogether, the Chief Minister said "there will be infrastructural, administrative and logistic co-operation between the two cities resulting in long-term employment opportunities, skills and capacity building and all-round development.
