WB Govt to give away Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman Award 2014

Like previous year, the West Bengal Government has decided to give away Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman Award this year too on various categories of Durga Puja.

Announcing this here today, state's Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary Atri Bhattacharya said the categories on which the awards would be given included idol, pandal, theme, lighting, environment-friendliness, innovation, festival atmosphere, artisan, music and Biswa Bangla branding.

Biswa Bangla is a brand being promoted by the West Bengal government to promote all handloom and handicraft products of the state.

Besides West Bengal, the Durga Pujas organised in other states and even overseas have been included within the purview of this award, Bhattacharya said.
 

A number of important persons and celebrities have been included in the panel of judges to decide awards on Durga Puja in Kolkata, Bhattacharya said.

For the districts, the awards would be given on best puja, best idol and best pandal.

Bhattacharya said three awards each would be given in each category and the awards would consist of cash prize and a memento.

Ten pujas each would be awarded from other states and other countries, he added.
