Under the decision cleared by the Cabinet, constables, assistant sub-inspectors and sub-inspectors would be given the facilities, Panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee said after a cabinet meeting.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries would get land free from the government subject to availability, but would have to construct houses or flats at their own cost.

The scheme would be supervised by the West Bengal State Police Housing Corporation, he said.

The state government has earmarked some land in some districts and was on the lookout for it in other districts for the project, he added.

The Cabinet has also cleared another project to rehabilitate aged, ill and deserted sex-workers and deserted girl children of sex workers, Mukherjee said.

Under the scheme Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department would set up two Homes one for 100 aged, ill and deserted sex-workers and another for 50 deserted girl children of sex-workers, he said.

Their expenses for shelter, food, education for children and other requirements of daily livelihood would be borne by the state government, the minister said.
