Union Minister Babul Supriyo today alleged central funds meant for the Swachh Bharat Mission and other projects were not utilised and the West Bengal government has "doled out" it for other purposes.

"This year we have given around Rs 115 crore to the state for the Swachh Bharat mission. The fund has come to the state but I have heard the municipalities have not received them. The funds have been doled out for cycles and shoes," the Minister of State for Urban Development said here.

The Mamata Banerjee government gives bicycle to girl students of classes IX and above. He questioned the source of the funds it was "doling out" over such projects.

"Not only the municipalities have not received funds, but funds meant for the JNNURM buses have been spent for other purposes.

"The state government is saying it has no funds but Rs 106 crore has been doled out to the clubs. Several projects have been announced just before the elections by the Chief Minister. Where is the money coming from?" Supriyo asked.

He, however, dismissed suggestions of "understanding" between the state and the Centre behind the alleged slowdown of the CBI probe into the Saradha multi-crore scam.

"This (an understanding) can be politically very interesting, but practically this is not possbile... The CBI is looking into it. But the kind of media attention it generated during the initial days cannot go on.
