State Transport Minister Madan Mitra today called a meeting of different trade union bodies and officials of all law enforcing agencies including the police and apprised them about the new guidelines.
Later, he told the reporters that the police had been asked to act tough against violation of the transport department's guidelines.
The guidelines included ban on music system and special lights on autorickshaws, who would also not be allowed to carry more than four passengers at a time.
Besides, making carrying of identity cards mandatory for autorickshaw drivers, police cases would be made out if they were found smoking or speaking on the mobile during driving.
Autorickshaw and taxi operators would be required to get their vehicles checked on a regular basis for fitness certificates.
Both the autorickshaws and taxis have to carry vehicle registration number both at the front and rear, beside inside the vehicles, whose route permits could be scrapped and driver's licence cancelled for six months in case of violation.

He sought cooperation of the trade union leaders and asked them to monitor the operation of autorickshaws and taxis and called upon the people to lodge their complaints immediately in case of flouting of guidelines.
The minister said that the state government was also considering to bring in some amendments to the central Motor Vehicles Act to make it more effective in the state.
