WB minister visits mishap site in North Dinajpur, faces

West Bengal Minister Abdul Karim Chowdhury faced protest by locals today during his visit to the accident site at Chakalia in North Dinajpur district where six school students were killed in a road mishap three days back.

The Minister for Mass Education Extension and Library Services, who came to talk to the guardians of the deceased, faced protest by locals who demanded better policing by traffic department in the area and alleged that the bereaved families were yet to receive any compensation, a police officer said.

Chowdhury, who is also the Islampur MLA, listened to the grievances of the demonstrators and promised to address their concerns. The protesters let the car and escort convoy of the minister go after 40 minutes, the officer said.
 

On December 3, six school children were killed and nine others injured when a jeep carrying them from Bihar's Kishanganj to North Dinajpur district in West Bengal collided with a truck near Rampur checkpost under Chakalia police station in West Bengal.

The injured, including the driver of the vehicle, have been admitted at the Kishanganj medical college and hospital in Bihar.
