BJP today requested West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan to extend the deadline for filing nominations for the first phase of panchayat polls by two days.
The first phase election in nine districts will be held on July 2.
"We have already appealed to the State Election Commission and we have also requested the Governor to see that there is an extension of two days time for the first phase of nomination filing," state BJP president Rahul Sinha said.
Sinha also alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress was preventing opposition parties from filing nominations by creating a "reign of terror" in rural areas of the state.
