WB plans to sell power to B'desh in 2014

West Bengal will be in a position to sell 2500 units of power to Bangladesh from next year, the state power minister Manish Gupta said today.

"We are presently selling our surplus power to states like Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Rajasthan. From next year we will sell around 2500 units of power to Bangladesh," Gupta told reporters after a departmental review meeting at the Bakreshwar Thermal Power Plant (BTPP).

Th state government has already received permission to start construction work of the sixth unit of BTPP from the Centre and after completion of the unit, it would produce 500 MW of power, Gupta said.
 

"We have a plan to electrify all households in the state by the end of 2014," he said.

The minister also stressed that a coal price regulatory authority should be constituted by the Centre at the earliest.
