WB ready to waive dues of sick units : Chatterjee

The state can waive its dues, he said adding things would have to be worked out for the other creditors

West Bengal government was prepared to waive its dues from sick industrial units of the state, Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee said today.

Efforts would be made to revive the sick industries, particularly in the interest of workers who would have to be protected, he said during the question hour in the assembly.

The state can waive its dues, he said adding things would have to be worked out for the other creditors.

There were a total 233 closed units in the state covering a land area of 1091 acres, according to a survey of closed and sick industrial units by the state government, he said.
 

The industry department was collecting information about the closed units, he said and ruled out any realty activity on industrial land.
