The West Bengal government has set a target to capture the third slot in electronics manufacturing industry in the country, state IT Minister Amit Mitra said today.

"Our aim is to capture the third position in the electronics manufacturing industry in the country", Mitra said at the ESDM (Electronics System Design and Manufacturing) Conclave organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce here.

He said the state was endowed with a vibrant ecosystem for the ESDM industry to flourish and targetted to increase market share from four per cent to 10 per cent in the country's IT, ITeS and ESDM industry.

Mitra also offered land to South Korea and Taiwan to set up electronics clusters in the state. The places on offer were Kharagpur, Panagarh in Burdwan district and Goaltore in West Midnapur district.

The state is also setting up greenfield electronics parks, he said in the presence of officials of Korean Trade - Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and Taipei World Trade Centre.

Mitra identified lighting, LED panels, security systems, semi-conductor fabrication, solar voltaic cells and set-top boxes as the ESDM sectors for which units could be set up.

The state had also approached Korean electronics giant Samsung to set up a R&D hub here, Mitra said.

Country head of KOTRA D S Choi later told reporters that the state had the locational advantage for the ESDM industry and also good R&D and ecosystem.
