A special CBI court today awarded rigorous imprisonment of three years to a clerk of a PSU for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 5000 to extend an official favour to his colleague.

Special CBI Judge M K Sharma held Anil Kumar Malla, an employee of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), guilty under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and also imposed on him a fine of Rs 5000 on him.

The case dates back to 2013 when Malla sought illegal gratification of Rs 5000 from his office colleague Harinarayan Mishra for processing his application seeking withdrawal of Rs 5 lakh from his Provident Fund account.

CBI had arrested Malla when he was accepting the bribe from Mishra on February 19, 2013.

A charge sheet was later filed against Malla by CBI Prevention of Corruption Act.
