The World Design Organization is all set to launch its new global programme World Design Protopolis in Bengaluru, aimed at implementing holistic progress in mega cities across the world and making them sustainable.
The announcement was made at the ongoing three-day Kochi Design Week (KDW), Indias largest design conclave that kicked off at Bolgatty Island here on Thursday.
Delivering the keynote address on Design Opportunities and Challenges Ahead, Srini R Srinivasan, CEO, Lumium, and President-elect, WDO, said, We have selected Bengaluru as the first ever city in the world to implement this project, which is exclusively for big cities.
Elaborating, he said "We are trying to prototype a future city.
The project aims to measure the progress of the city, attract investments and solve the problems so that the city becomes a better place for the citizens.

Unlike our one-year celebratory programme World Design Capital, this five-year project stresses on measurability, which is the main difference in the project.
They will measure what they did in the city and how the city benefitted and who benefitted over a period of five years."
Divulging the reason for selecting an Indian city, Srinivasan said: They submitted a proposal and we liked it.
On design aspects in business, he said design should give meaningful result for the user and should engage people emotionally.
It can play a role with actual or potential customers/users, he said, adding there should be mutual empathy strategists and designers.
Designers should evaluate their creations, recreate it and reevaluate it, he said.
The mega event, which will conclude on Saturday, witnesses the convergence of design professionals from India and abroad, heads of various companies, architects, interior designers, thought leaders, policymakers and government officials, besides the general public.
