The 61-year-old musician, while talking to media at the Aadi-Anant music festival last evening, said that young minds should be better educated so that such thoughts do not find a place when they grow up.

"We should first look within ourself to find out the reason for what happened. How did it happen that someone was able to raise his hand on our daughter? The question is how did such a thought come to the minds of the culprits.

"If we let such thoughts come into the minds of our children, then such incidents will take place. If the cultural bonds within the four walls our house weaken then this will happen," said Hussain.

The son of renowned tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha Khan quoted the Bible while giving his views.

"It is mentioned in the Bible that when people started pelting stones at a prostitute, Jesus Christ said that a person whose heart is pure of all sins should be the first to throw a stone. Nobody was able to throw a stone at the woman.

"We are all guilty of what happened. We should not tolerate if such a thing happens to any of our daughters or sisters in any part of the country," Hussain said.

The Grammy-winning musician enthralled audiences for more than an hour at last evening's concert organised by Citi-NCPA, which also included other performers like tabla players Aditya Kalyanpur and Navin Sharma. This season the festival is commemorating the age old Guru-Shishya tradition.

When asked which were his favourite ragas, Hussain said that it depended upon the time of the day as certain ragas are for the morning and others are for evening.

"It depends on the day, certain ragas are for morning, certain are for the evening. On a certain morning I would like to listen to certain ragas like 'komal rishabh asavari' and 'lalit'."

"It depends upon the time of the day and who is playing, for instance when Ustad Amir Khan sahab sang Marwa everybody would run to the concert hall," Hussain added.
