Afghanistan opener Mohammed Shahzad, who blasted 44 off just 19 balls rued the fact that his team lost a few early wickets which resulted in their 37-run defeat against South Africa in an ICC World T20 game, here this evening.
"It was a good pitch for batting but unfortunately we threw away too many wickets in the first 7 overs and that is why we lost. But we will try to play good cricket again (against) England and West Indies," the attacking opener told mediapersons, at post-match conference.
He admitted that 210 was a tough target to chase.
"The target was too much but wicket is good for batting. We had aggressive batsmen and that's why we tried playing positive cricket. Unfortunately, we lost too many wickets," said Shahzad.
He did not agree that Chris Morris' aggressive bowling impacted his rhythm.
"Chris Morris is aggressive but his aggression did not affect my rhythm. He bowled very well maintaining good line and length. I just missed a full length delivery."
The turning point according to him was AB de Villiers hitting 29 off the 17th over of the South African innings.
"Of course, that over (AB scoring 29 runs in the 17th over) was the difference between the two teams."
The opener said that he would have loved to play Dale Steyn, who was not in the XI but at the same time termed Morris as a more dangerous bowler.
"It did not matter which bowler was playing because the wicket was very good to bat on. I would have loved playing Dale Steyn because he is not dangerous but Morris is as he has the height and can swing the ball".
