Vice President Hamid Ansari today said there should be more interaction between India and China at the level of students and academicians as there was a need to think beyond technology and trade.

Ansari, who met Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in New Delhi yesterday, discussed issues related to societies and people and both agreed that there was a need for more interaction at the level of universities and academicians.

"It was on a philosophical plane. Basically the point that I put to him was that the world is changing very fast. In 21st century world, India and China will be playing a very important role.

"Therefore, while we are working together on the linkages of trade, technology and other things, we also need to devote more time to thinking about the future," the Vice President told reporters accompanying him to Uzbekistan.

Elaborating on his discussions with Premier Li, he said "Nobody can say what the shape of the world will be fifty years from now. And we have to think about it, not only in terms of technology but in wider terms - what would be the relationships between people in societies and between societies?

"...My suggestion was that we need to interact and he reacted very positively. He agreed that we need such more contacts in the level of university and academics".
