We still feel like students: Dev R Nil

Kolkata based designer duo Debarghaya Bairagi (Dev) and Navonil Das (Nil), who completed a decade in the fashion industry this year, said they still feel like a newcomer.

The designers started their journey in 2004 with an idea in mind that they will not have any signature style and would always experiment with new formats.

"We still feel like a student as we see collections from designers like Rajesh Pratap Singh. We don't follow any set pattern and go by our instincts. If we look back, we had loads of fun but as we look forward, we feel there are a lot of expectations to be fulfilled," Dev said.

The designers presented their collection 'A song of the Wild' at the day four of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015.

They paid an ode to their Bengali roots by incorporating the doodles of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore that he used to draw on the side of the sheet where he wrote poetry.

"His work has a lasting influence on us and his words come alive through some of his own handwriting. We also have tribal arts, disjointed prints changed into star patterns," Dev added.

They incorporated hand-woven ikats and silks on jump suits, skirts, dresses and palazzos. Men's wear involved suits and shorts Kurtas worn with jackets.

The colour palette had beige, khaki, sand and blue.

"Our collection is for people who love to explore and travel around. The silhouettes are very relaxed," Dev said.
