"We come across various reports in newspapers and I am appalled. We worship goddess Durga whom we have not seen. But we can see her presence in every woman around us, we must learn to show every woman the respect she deserves," said the Sangeet Natak Akademi award recipient.

"While listening to devotional songs can bring orientation, one has to change the way of looking at women, considering her as embodiment of mother," he said, during the launch his album of devotional songs 'O kaar murti re mon (which idol you are worshipping for)'.

The album's 27 songs are on various phases of Durga puja from 'Bodhon' (awakening) to Visarjan (immersion).

Besides Chakraborty, his daughter and well-known vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty, wife Chandana Chakrabory and his students have also lend their voice to the songs.

Kaushiki said, "Many of the songs had been handed over to us for generations and I have grown up listening to them."

Superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, who was present on the occasion, said, "The launch of the album can hold significance only if we acknowledge the contribution of mothers around us and scare away the demon of women abuse."

Actress Koel Mallick said she had heard some of these songs at closed door sessions.

"Newspapers reports don't reflect a good time for women in general. I feel there has to be the change in outlook of some which can be effected first through such songs," she said during the launch.
