Taking a cue from overseas markets, silver prices dropped by 0.39 per cent to Rs 36,765 per kg in futures trading today as participants cut down their bets.

At Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in far- month December fell by Rs 145, or 0.39 per cent, to Rs 36,765 per kg in a business turnover of five lots.

Likewise, the white metal for delivery in September contracts moved down by Rs 125, or 0.35 per cent, to Rs 36,106 per kg in 805 lots.

Traders said the fall in silver prices in futures trade was largely due to offloading of positions by participants, tracking a weak trend in precious metals in global markets.

Globally, silver fell 0.71 per cent to USD 15.46 an ounce in Singapore.
