Weightlifter K Ravi Kumar made dy sp by Odisha govt

Odisha Government today appointed noted weightlifter K Ravi Kumar as deputy superintendent of police for his contribution.

The appointment of Ravi Kumar, who had won the gold medal in 69 kg category in 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games, was approved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, a CMO release said.

Ravi Kumar, who hails from Berhampur, is the first sportsperson in the state to get a job in Group A category, it said.

In a bid to encourage sportspersons the state government had adopted a rule for direct recruitment of meritorious sportspersons of the state in the police force last year. Altogether 59 sportspersons have been so far been provided employment in the police under this scheme.
 

The state government recently gave appointment to sprinters Dutee Chand and Shrabani Nanda in Odisha Mining Corporation and Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) respectively.
