Days to go before the civic poll in the state, the West Bengal government today announced creation of 600 new posts, specially in the departments of health, education and home.

State Agriculture Minister Purnendu Bose said the decision had been cleared by the state cabinet today.

In another decision, the cabinet cleared a merger of Bally Municipality with the Howrah Municipal Corporation for administrative convenience.

A Bill in this regard would be placed during the next session of the Assembly, Bose said.

Responding to requests by the authority of Belur Math, global headquarters of the Ramkrishna Math and Mission, the state cabinet has also decided to set up a police outpost at the Math to strengthen security, he said.

The recent two back-to-back explosions in the Math premises prompted the authority to request the government to set up the police outpost.
