The West Bengal higher education department has decided to update and revise the curriculum of all general degree courses as suggested by University Grants Commission.

"The state council of higher education has decided to to update and revise the curriculum of all general degress courses, specially the science subjects", state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said today.

This, he said, would be done in consultation with the universities to make it in conformity with the choice-based credit system as suggested by UGC.

"For engineering courses, similar exercise had been carried out and a report prepared by a committee set up in this regard has been circulated among all state universities running such courses for their views. The revised curriculum is expected to be introduced from the next academic session," he said at a CII event here where President Pranab Mukherjee was also present.

The minister said a committee of subject experts had been set up and a professional consultancy firm had been selected to complete the task in a time-bound manner.

Calling for greater cooperation between the industry and academia, Chatterjee said the motto of the higher education roadmap is 4Es - expansion, equity, excellence and employability.
