A youth hailing from West Bengal has been arrested here with about Rs two lakh in fake currency, officials said today.

Anwarul Haq (26), hailing from Chakulia police station area in West Bengal's Uttari Dinajpur district, was arrested in a joint operation by Sashastra Seema Bal and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence last evening, SSB Deputy Commandant Kumar Sundaram told reporters.

He said counterfeit currency with face value of Rs 1.99 lakh was also recovered from his possession.

The fake notes were in the denominations of Rs 2000 and Rs 500, the Deputy Commandant said adding that the motorcycle which the youth was riding has also been seized.

He said the youth appeared to be a part of a "big network" that was involved in pumping fake currency, printed in Pakistan and Bangladesh, into India via Nepal.

He was currently being interrogated and will later be produced by an economic offences court in Purnea district, Sundaram added.
