Displaying rare courage, a woman in West Delhi chased two bike-borne youth who had snatched her handbag and nabbed them with the help of locals and police.

According to the police, the incident took place around 9 PM last night when 41-year-old Shalini, started from her Paschin Vihar residence on her scooter for Punjabi Bagh bus terminal to receive her mother-in-law.

"As she stopped at a traffic signal on North Avenue Road, two youth riding a motorcycle stopped next to her. In a flash, the pillion snatched her handbag and the duo fled on their bike. Not deterred by the sudden attack, Shalini decided to follow them," said a police official.

She tailed the bikers for over a kilometre and even called police while driving. As they took a turn near Central Market in West Punjabi Bagh, the woman followed them until they reached a spot where the road was closed.

"As they tried to turn back and flee, Shalini blocked their way with her scooter and raised an alarm. Locals came to her help and nabbed the two accused. Meanwhile, two policemen also reached the spot. The duo was arrested, Shalini's bag was returned to her and the motorcycle used in the crime was seized," the official said.

The youth identified as Manmeet Singh (19) and Rahul Rai (23) have been booked under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code and sent to jail.

While Singh is a small-time disc jockey, Rai works as a stage dancer. During interrogation, both the accused allegedly confessed their involvement in at least eight cases of chain and bag snatching in the area.
