"...To certain extent that some people have some kind of misperception. Also, they don't know China. They have not been to China. They just read the newspapers, mainly from western media. They feel whatever western media is reporting is correct," Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yan told reporters on the sidelines an event by telecom company Huawei.

Zhang also alleged the US and some other countries are following a policy of protection in the garb of political and technical issues.

"If you go to Huawei, you will see Huawei is very advanced. But you see why the US and some countries have different policy towards Huawei because they are pursuing a sort of protectionism. They use political and technical issues as kind of excuse to lock Chinse products in their market," he said.

His remarks come in the backdrop of the House Intelligence Committee of the US launching an investigation to review the threat posed to US national security interests by telecommunication companies with potential ties to Chinese government.
