Western Odisha sizzled in intense heatwave conditions, while the coastal belt received some respite as the mercury dropped following rainfall in several areas today.
Bhawanipatna in western region turned out to be the hottest place in the state recording a maximum temperature of 44.7 degrees Celsius, while the mercury stood at 43.8 degree Celsius at Hirakud, the meteorological centre here said.
The maximum temperature at Titlagarh was 43.5 degree Celsius, followed by 43.4 degrees at Jharsuguda, 43.2 degrees at Malkangiri and 42.9 degrees at Sonepur, it said.

The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar was recorded at 39.4 degrees Celsius, while Cuttack recorded 37 degrees Celsius and Balasore 34 degrees Celsius, the MeT office said.
Bhubaneswar received 20 mm rainfall, while 19 mm rainfall was recorded in Balasore. Rainfall in Chandbali was recorded at 33 mm, it said.
