The Western Railway today paid homage to victims of the serial blasts which took place on the Mumbai local trains during the evening rush hour on this day in 2006.
Seven blasts in the first-class coaches of trains on the Western line within a span of six minutes on July 11, 2006, had left 189 people dead and injured over 829.
It was the deadliest terror attack Mumbai had seen after the 1993 blasts.
The Western Railway said in a statement on the tenth anniversary of the bombing that various principal Heads of Departments and other senior railway officers placed wreaths at stations and two minutes' silence was observed at all the stations.
The blasts had taken place at or near Matunga Road, Mahim Junction, Bandra, Santacruz, Jogeshwari, Borivali and Bhayandar stations.
"Anil Kumar Agarwal, Chief Mechanical Engineer (was) at Mahim station, G S Tuteja, Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer at Santacruz station, P S Mishra, Chief Operations Manager at Borivali station, Sanjay Suri, Chief Personnel Officer at Bhayander station and D K Sharma, Chief Electrical Engineer of WR was present at Bandra station as per the sequence (of blasts) and paid tributes to the departed souls," the statement said.
A special court here had on September 30 last year sentenced to death five persons and gave life term to seven others, all having links with banned terror outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), for the blasts conspiracy.
