Fisherfolk leaders from 30 countries are expected to participate in an international meet organised by the World Forum of Fisher People (WFFP) in Puducherry next week.

The World Forum of Fisher People (WFFP) was the outcome of the meet of the leaders of the International fisher communities held in New Delhi in 1997.

As the meet is being held in India, it is proposed to give special focus to the issues of traditional fisherfolk communities in the country, M Ilango, Chairperson, National Fish Workers Forum (NFF) said.

A workshop on 'The International Guidelines on Securing Sustainable Small Scale Fisheries' would also be held as part of the programme, he said.

Apart from the international leaders, representatives of the member fisher organisations of NFF from various coastal states would also participate in the programme, the release added.
