Wheat falls on increased supply; rice basmati up

Wheat prices drifted by Rs 30 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today due to increased supplies from producing regions against reduced offtake by flour mills.

However, rice basmati firmed up on stockists buying against restricted supplies from producing regions.

Traders said reduced offtake by flour mills against sufficient stocks on the back of increased supplies from producing regions mainly kept pressure on the wheat prices.

In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) fell by Rs 30 to Rs 1,670-1,675 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded lower by a similar margin to Rs 1,675-1,680 per 90 kg.
 

Atta flour mills, maida and sooji also slipped to Rs 855-865, Rs 940-950 and Rs 1,010-1,025 from previous levels of Rs 865-875, Rs 950-960 and Rs 10,20-1,025 per 50 kg, respectively.

Other bold grains like, barley too finished lower at Rs 1,300-1,310 against last close of Rs 1,350-1,360 per quintal.

On the other hand, rice basmati common and Pusa 1121- variety settled higher at Rs 5,500-5,600 and Rs 4,250-5,200 as compared to previous levels of Rs 5,300-5,400 and Rs 4,100-5,100 per quintal respectively.

Basmati rice (Lal Quila) Rs 10,700, Shri Lal Mahal Rs 11,300, Super Basmati Rice Rs 9,700, Basmati common new Rs 5,500-5,600, Rice Pusa (1121) Rs 4,250-5,200, Permal raw Rs 1,850-1,900, Permal wand Rs 2,050-2,100, Sela Rs 2,200-2,300 and Rice IR-8 Rs 1,600-1,620, Bajra Rs 1,570-1,575, Jowar yellow Rs 1,800-1,900, white Rs 3,400-3,500, Maize Rs 1,690-1,700, Barley Rs 1,300-1,310.
